Trainee Positions

  • Registrar positions in Paediatric Emergency Medicine 
  • 12 month positions combining 6 months Paeds ED with paired with 6 months at JKWC Sunshine General Paediatrics or Werribee Mercy General Paediatrics are available
  • 6 month or 12 months positions 
  • Full-time, part-time, or job-share available
  • Please note that some positions for ACEM and PEM have been recruited directly to the site for 2025.  The positions available in VPAT are able to be accredited for either Acute training with Gen Paeds, or for PEM training.  

Trainee Level

  • Required experience:
    • 12 months of paediatrics
  • Desirable experience:
    • 6 months of neonatology
    • APLS course completion
    • PICU or ICU experience
    • Retrieval experience
  • Advanced trainees - this position is accredited for the General Paediatric requirement for acute care and for PEM training

Role

Notable features of the department and position include:

  • PEM specialist cover 7 days/week onsite 0800 - 2330 and on-call

Roster and on-call

  • Registrars are on a rotating roster providing 24 hour per day, 7 days per week cover in the Emergency Department.  

Pay

  • As per current AMA Victorian Doctors in Training award
  • Linked positions with other Health Services (e.g. Werribee Mercy) will be provided as separate contracts from each health service

Accessibility

  • Sunshine Hospital is located approx 20km from Melbourne CBD in western Melbourne (St Albans).  
  • There is (paid) staff parking available on-site
  • The hospital is a 5 minute walk from Ginifer Train Station and complementary shuttle bus operates between the hospital and station during after-hours

    Sunshine Hospital Children's Emergency manages approximately 30,000 annual presentations by children (under 18 years of age).  The ED has undergone significant redevelopment over the last 2 years, and provides a separate and specially designed area for paediatric emergency medicine. The successful applicants will assess and manage paediatric patients and supervise more junior members of the medical team.  The PEM registrar roster includes daytime, evening, weekend and night shifts.

    Sunshine Children's Emergency is an accredited training site with RACP and ACEM for Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM).  Our registrar positions are suitable for trainees in general paediatrics, paediatric emergency medicine, and general emergency medicine.
