Whilst many paediatric registrar positions are recruited via this site, not all positions available in Victoria are part of this central recruitment program.
The VPAT program is related to recruitment for paediatric positions only. It is NOT an advanced training network.
Candidates are applying to individual jobs and it is their responsibility to make preferences that will meet their training requirements. The VPAT does not guarantee that a trainee will be allocated their final required rotation - the trainee must be ranked by the hospital site high enough to earn that position.
Roles that you will find on this site include:
- General Paediatric Registrars, including senior roles such as Fellows or Chief Registrars
- all general paediatric advanced training and unaccredited positions available in Victoria are recruited via this process
- Community Paediatrics Registrars, including senior roles such as Senior Fellows
- most community positions are recruited via this process
- please remember that most rural sites can be accredited for 6 months of core Developmental/Psychosocial training if you do a 12 month General Paediatric position.
- Neonatal Medical Officers (Registrars) - less than 12 months tertiary NICU experience (roles for Gen Paeds trainees)
- all Neonatal Medical Officer (Registrars) for NICU's in Victoria are recruited via this process. These roles are accredited for advanced training (Acute) in General Paediatrics regardless of which classification the hospital utilises for employment.
- All Senior Registrar/ Fellow positions (12 months or more tertiary NICU experience) for NICU's in Victoria are recruited independently prior to the VPAT process
- Paediatric ED Registrars (for Gen Paeds trainees)
- Most of the paediatric Emergency Departments have 2 - 3 jobs in the VPAT match
- ACEM and PEM Fellow positions are recruited independently prior to the VPAT process, but the roles listed in VPAT can be accredited for PEM training / dual training
