Trainee Positions

  • 1 x Community Registrar (6 months or 12 months) - predominantly Melton campus
    • Accredited for 6 months Community Child Health or 6 months Developmental and Psychosocial for Gen Paeds Advanced training
  • 1 x Community Registrar (6 months or 12 months) - predominantly Bacchus Marsh campus
    • Accredited for 5.5 months Community Child Health or 6 months Developmental and Psychosocial for Gen Paeds Advanced training
  • 1 x Community Fellow (12 months) - attends Melton, JKWC, and IPC Deer Park (this position is recruited via Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Sunshine Hospital - please refer to Sunshine Hospital site).

Roster and on-call

  • The Bacchus Marsh and Melton positions are Mon-Fri day shifts with no dedicated on-call
    • The Bacchus Marsh Registrar will do SCN ward rounds and assist with in-hours on-call to the nursery and maternity wards.
      • On occasion, the Melton Paediatric Registrar may be required for in-hours on-call assistance to the nursery and postnatal maternity wards at Bacchus Marsh. 
    • The registrars may be required to cover for the on-site on-call after-hours weekend and weekday overnight roster in urgent situations only - family-friendly accommodation is provided for these after-hours periods.

Wards

  • 3 bed level 3 SCN (500 births per year)
  • Outpatient clinics and MDT rooms at both Bacchus Marsh and Melton campuses

Senior Staff

  • 7 x General and/or Community Paediatricians (part-time)

Education and Teaching

  • Petite Rounds (community paediatric focus)
  • MDT meetings and case conferences
  • Weekly CCCH tutorial program - protected teaching time
  • NeoResus is completed during Orientation for trainees working at Bacchus Marsh, and is offered 2 further times per year on-site.

Accessibility

  • Melton and Bacchus Marsh sites are each located approximately 50 km from the Melbourne CBD with easy highway access and free parking.  The two sites are 14 km apart.  A car is required for these positions.

    Bacchus Marsh and Melton Community (previously Djerriwarrh) - Western Health offer accredited training positions that focus on community paediatric training.  Outpatient clinics at both sites offer comprehensive assessment and management for children with a range of conditions.

    There are a number of specialist multidisciplinary clinics conducted at Melton Health and the trainees will get experience in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders, learning difficulties, behavioural disorders, and other developmental disorders.

    The allied health and consultant paediatric team are approachable and focus on providing family-centred care for children.  You will receive supportive supervision and learning opportunities and will be treated as a valuable member of the team.  The community paediatric experience at Bacchus Marsh / Melton will be a highlight of your training years and prepare you well for General Paediatric or Community Paediatric practice in the future.
