Trainee Positions

12 positions across the following options

  • Eastern Health General Paediatrics - Senior Registrar - 12 months FTE 0.5
  • Eastern Health General Paediatrics / Monash Newborn - 12 months (6 months each rotation)
  • Eastern Health General Paediatrics / Eastern Health CYMHS - 12 months (6 months each rotation)
  • Eastern Health General Paediatrics - 6 or 12 month positions available

Trainee Level

  • Preferably Advanced Trainee (post FRACP exams)
  • AT3+ applicants for Senior Registrar position
  • Will consider Continuing Basic Trainees, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Trainees and International Medical Graduates with sufficient experience in neonatal care and emergency paediatrics

Roster and on-call

  • Rotating roster 24/7 through paediatric ward, SCN, and outpatients

Wards

Box Hill Hospital:

  • 16 paediatric beds (Paediatric Medicine, Eating Disorders, Paediatric Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedic, Plastics)
  • 12 bed level 4 SCN (2700 deliveries per year)
  • Very busy Emergency Department

Angliss Hospital:

  • 8 paediatric beds (SSU / CDU)
  • 8 bed level 3 SCN (2300 deliveries per year)
  • Busy Emergency Department

Junior Staff

  • 12 residents across both sites
  • 14 registrars
    • 11 appointed by Eastern Health
    • 2 Victorian Basic Training Consortium registrars, 1 rotating registrar from RCH - not appointed via this process

Senior Registrar

  • Support for registrar and HMO group, orientation, unit education, registrar portfolio supervision
  • Quality and Safety portfolio, improvement project opportunities, guidelines development opportunities
  • Independent ward rounds and one night first on call for clinical week with protected consultant support
  • Full day fortnightly general paediatric clinic
  • Education role opportunities with Monash and Deakin students

Senior Staff

  • 20 senior medical staff, including neonatologists, an adolescent physician, paediatric emergency physician, developmental paediatrician, allergist and neurologist

Clinics

  • All outpatients have direct consultant supervision
    • General Paediatric clinics
    • Eating Disorder clinic
    • Allergy clinic
    • Dermatology clinic
    • Neurology clinic

Education and Teaching

  • Protected weekly registrar teaching session with consultant-led teaching, case presentations, simulation practice, procedural sessions
  • Monthly M&M meetings
  • Quarterly radiology meetings
  • Medical student and HMO teaching
  • Registrar specific portfolios including research opportunities
  • We accredit all registrars for Neoresus during orientation

    Eastern Health is one of Melbourne's largest metropolitan public health services. It provides a comprehensive range of acute, subacute, and community services to a diverse community population. 

    Paediatric Registrars will rotate through Box Hill Hospital and Angliss Hospital.  Registrars are supported by friendly, enthusiastic paediatric consultants 24 hours, 7 days a week.  The busy units provide experiences including acute assessment, inpatient general paediatrics, eating disorders, and neonatal medicine.  There is ample opportunity for registrars to participate in clinics.

    Box Hill and Angliss Hospitals are both accredited for Advanced Training in General Paediatrics with a perinatal component.

    Eastern Health CYMHS is accredited for Developmental and Psychosocial training. The CYMHS registrar is supported by child and adolescent psychiatrists within their multidisciplinary team and provide on call support for the adolescent inpatient psychiatry unit.
