Trainee Positions

  • 1 Registrar position - 12 months or 2 x 6 months
  • 2 positions Casey General Paediatrics / Monash Paediatric Emergency
    • These positions will have 6 months in each rotation
  • Accredited for General Paediatrics with perinatal component

Trainee Level

  • Preferably Advanced Trainee (post FRACP exams) or Paediatric Emergency Medicine trainee
    • Continuing Basic Trainee or International Medical Graduate with sufficient experience in neonatal care and emergency paediatrics also considered

Roster and on-call

  • 7 Registrars on rotating 24/7 roster.  2 registrars on day-shift, 1 registrar on evening and night shifts.  

Wards

  • 20 paediatric beds (shared with Paediatric ENT and day-surgery)
  • 20 bed level 4 SCN (2,500 deliveries per year)
  • Extremely busy Emergency Department (25,000 paediatric presentations/year)

Junior Staff

  • 6 Residents (incl. 1 SRMO)
  • 7 Registrars: 1 Advanced Trainee, 3 x Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Consortium Registrars, 1 x Rotating Registrar Basic Trainee, 2 Registrars co-recruited with Paediatric ED.  Note that VBPTC Reg and ED/Paeds Regs are not appointed through this application process.

Senior Staff

  • 4 Consultants providing inpatient ward cover
  • 2 additional Consultants in outpatients

Clinics 

  • Full day clinic weekly attended by 1 registrar - direct consultant supervision

Education and Teaching

  • Weekly Journal Club
  • Weekly imaging meeting
  • 6-weekly M&M meeting
  • Weekly grand round
  • Weekly video-linked Monash Children's Hospital grand round

  • As per award including overtime

    Casey Hospital is part of Monash Health and situated in the southeast of Melbourne.  The area is rapidly expanding with many young families in the region.  

    The paediatric unit has a friendly and supportive consultant group providing 24 hour, 7 day a week cover to the JMS.  The busy unit provides a range of experiences in acute assessment, inpatient general paediatrics, and neonatal medicine.  There are weekly outpatient clinics attended by registrars.  

    Casey Hospital is accredited by the RACP as a secondment hospital for basic trainees (rotated from the Victorian Basic Training Program) and for advanced training in General Paediatrics with a perinatal component.
