Trainee Positions

  • Paediatric Emergency Registrars - 6 or 12 month positions
    • Please note that whilst ACEM registrars seeking paediatric experience may apply via this site, the main recruitment for these trainees occurs in May/June of each year to align with other ACEM roles.  
    • Job-share is possible for these roles
    • Positions may be part-time or full-time

 

  • 2 x Adolescent Medicine and Emergency AT Registrar positions - 12 months
    • Comprises 6 months in each of Paediatric Emergency and Adolescent Medicine 
      • ED is accredited for ATR, PEM (up to 12 months).  Job-share is possible
      • Adolescent Medicine is accredited for general paediatrics or for adolescent and young adult medicine.  FT/PT (job-share) available
    • This position is particularly valuable for PEM trainees or those interested in adolescent medicine and mental health.

  • 2 x Community Paediatrics and Emergency AT Registrar positions - 12 months
    • Comprises 6 months in each of Paediatric Emergency and Community

  • 2 x Paediatric Emergency and Casey Hospital General Paediatrics - 12 months
    • Comprises 6 months in each of Paediatric Emergency at Monash Hospital and General Paediatrics with perinatal at Casey Hospital.

Trainee Levels

  • Required expereince
    • 12 months of emergency OR paediatrics training
  • Desirable experience
    • 6 months of neonatology
    • APLS course completion
  • Adolescent/ED role requires 4 years prior paediatric experience
  • Casey / ED role is ideally suited to ACEM trainees

 Role

  • Work as a registrar as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team that includes:
    • ACEM and RACP trainees
    • Acute musculoskeletal physiotherapists
    • Child Life Therapists
    • Pharmacists
    • Allied Health
    • Nurse Practitioners (new in 2025)
  • Consultant cover from 0800 - midnight, 7 days per week
  • High acuity, complex cases
  • Protected training time rostered each week

Roster

  • Registrars work a rotating roster covering 24 hours, 7 days per week - supported by a friendly and engaged senior medical staff team

Education, Training, Research, Quality and Safety

  • Weekly teaching sessions both in person and online
    • Procedural training
    • US training
  • Multiple concurrent sessions to choose from depending on your phase of training and college
  • In-situ simulation
  • Audit opportunities

Pay

  • As per the current EBA for Doctors in Training (Victoria) 
  • Note that you will be required to upload your application details into the Monash recruitment system once notified of a successful application to enable MCH to process a contract.

  • Monash Health's Paediatric Emergency Department is located at the Clayton site of Monash Medical Centre and Monash Children's Hospital - approximately 23km from Melbourne's CBD

    Monash Children's Hospital at Monash Health is a fully integrated primary, secondary and tertiary health service to a third of the state's children.  It also plays a vital role in the delivery of many state-wide tertiary services.  It is the thrid largest provider of paediatric medical services in Australia.

    The new purpose-built Monash Children's Hospital opened in mid-2017.  This allows clinical services to be delivered in a child and family-friendly environment and increases bed numbers and services for children of southeast Melbourne and Victoria.  

    Monash Medical Centre's new paediatric emergency department was completed in early 2022.  Providing teriary paediatric emergency care, the ED is adjacent to the new MCH and sees over 40,000 attendances each year.  It is adjacent to, but completely separate from, the adult emergency department.
