Roster and on-call

Royal Children's Hospital position:

  • The Fellow position at RCH is predominantly responsible for outpatient work - and there is a separate registrar covering inpatients.  The Fellow is encouraged to support the registrar on the ward and participate in inpatient work for experience and learning. There is an opportunity to be first on call during office hours later in the candidate's training.
  • There is no on-call commitment in the position at the RCH.

Monash Children's Hospital position:

  • The Advanced Trainee position at MCH is responsible for rehabilitation inpatient care with the assistance of a RMO.  The trainee is also involved in outpatient clinics, procedure lists and gait analysis.
  • The MCH trainee participates in the paediatric advanced trainee after-hours roster (evenings and weekends) covering all inpatients; and on-call roster for unplanned staff absence or extraordinary clinical lead (24 hour roster).

Education and Teaching

  • Dedicated training time to participate in the statewide and national training program
  • Consultant supervision for clinics and outreach activities
  • Specific training and supervision will be provided for Rehab accreditation

Pay

  • As per current Doctors in Training award

Accessibility

The RCH position is based predominantly at Royal Children's Hospital in Parkville.  The RCH fellow is expected to provide clinical care at other VPRS sites within the state - supervised outpatient clinics only.

The Monash position is based at the Monash Children's Hospital Clayton campus

 

The Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (VPRS) provides evidence-based, best practice clinical care to children and adolescents requiring rehabilitation with a variety of conditions including acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, chronic fatigue syndrome, elective musculoskeletal procedures, and other neurological conditions.

The interdisciplinary rehabilitation team provides goal orientated care aimed at maximising function.
